Lenny Goodell participate in his second Mt Taylor Quadrathlon on Saturday February 15th. He just started running in prep for last years event and had major knee issues. Over the past year he has been adapting his body to running and finding the best shoes, which currently are the Hoko One One trails shoes. Lenny had a goal of sub 6 hours for the bike, run, ski and snow shoe event. He came close but didn't make it with a 6:10 finish for 21st in the solo 40-49 category.

On with the Good, the Bad and the Ugly....
The good:
- No knee issues, ran 100% of the uphill run. Could have been faster walking the very top as slow as I was running, but was determined to run 100%...
- Uphill bike (single speed) was 4 mins faster than last year.
- Beat last years time by 11 mins.
- Transitions where fast!!
- Beautiful day to abuse the body for 6+ hrs...
- Awesome support by the Quad volunteers
- Great job by organizers to make at doable course in very bad snow conditions.
The Bad:
- Slower conditions than last year. Lack of snow required reroutes and warm conditions made the snow very slow.
- Stiff headwind on the downhill bike. Last year we had a tailwind and on the final long flats I was doing 20+ mph, this year in same section it was hard to do 16 mph.
- Didn't go sub 6hrs.
The Ugly:
- Didn't fully recover from 12 hrs of Old El Paso 2 weeks ago. Instead went out last weekend and did too much and real felt it after a couple miles into the up hill run. Just was slogging up the hill and was only 3 mins faster to the top than last year.
- Still walked parts of the down hill run. Not because of any knee issue, but because I was so F'n done! Even so was still 19 mins faster than last year which was 99% walking..
- When transitioning into new Nordic ski boots, the right cinch strap/lace snapped on on the new boot!!! . All I could do was zip it up (no support) and tighten the ankle brace. Not much problem on the up hill ski with the skins. But the rerouted down hill wasn't fun. It was very narrow and switch backs. I sooo much wanted to let it loose on the down hill ski this year, but had to snow plow way too much of it cause I didn't trust what I could do with a totally loose Nordic boot.
Still lots of room for improvement for next year!!! :-)
